the Canal Park Luncheon is organized by Patria Swann every year. Pictured with Patria are Jane Potkin and Sue Mahar. WWC members help in preparing a spring luncheon for residents of Canal Park, a residence in Westport for seniors and disabled singles and couples of any age.

WWC Honors 2012 Award Recipients

The Westport Woman’s Club honored 2012 Award Recipients today at their May Club Day Luncheon. ROSE JORDAN (L) is the recipient of the WWC Most Active Member Award – This award is presented annually to a member who has been recognized for service not only above and beyond the call of duty, but graciously and with a smile. Ms. Jordan’s many contributions to the club include Ruegg Grant Committee Chair, Nominating Committee Chair, Rentals Chair, Community Services Committee Chair, Secretary, and 100th Anniversary Committee Member. The 2012 Most Active Member Scholarship will be presented in Rose’s name to an eligible H.S. graduate in June.

JO FUCHS LUSCOMBE (R) Westport Woman’s Club Volunteer of the Year, received a Voluntary Action Center of Mid-Fairfield (VAC) Award recognizing her dedication and commitment to the WWC’s fundraising and community service efforts. Ms. Fuchs Luscombe’s many contributions to the club include WWC Past President, Community Services Committee Chair, Sponsorship Committee Co-Chair, Ruegg Grant Committee Member, Nominating Committee Member, Scholarship Committee Member, Programs Chair, Secretary, Curio Cottage volunteer, and has organized several Fundraisers which support Staples High School scholarships and many grants to local community service organizations.

Enjoy one of Westport’s oldest and best loved family events. Fair hours are Thursday/Friday 6pm – 10pm. Saturday 1pm – 10pm; Sunday 1pm – 5pm. Fair includes: Carnival Rides, International Food Court, Curio Cottage Thrift Shop, Kiddie Games, Face Painting, Sand Art, Raffle, Lucky Prize Drawing and Bake Sale and vendors in air conditioned auditorium. Admission is Free.

Joey’s by The Shore, returning to the YDF and serving his famous lobster roll and hot dogs and hamburgers. Christie’s Country Market joining us for the first time and selling his famous cheese steak sandwich, salads, and other signature menu items. Westport Chinese Takeout, with a selection of everybody’s favorite Chinese food. Skip’s Vintage Good Humor Ice Cream Truck stocked with all your favorite ice cream treats. Ice cold water and soft drinks sold by the Woman’s Club Members to support our community grants and scholarships.

Spring Plant Sale at the Westport Woman’s Club a Success

The Westport Woman’s Club held their Annual Plant Sale on May 7 on the grounds of the historic Sidney Watts Club House. Club members and Westport residents took advantage of the opportunity to add splashes of color to their spring and summer gardens while helping to raise funds to support the many philanthropic efforts of the WWC.

The sale featured a variety of annuals, hanging baskets and planters, plant stands and decorative pieces. Mary Lee Clayton, WWC President, was delighted by the results of the sale. “Featuring annuals has given the WWC the opportunity to fill a niche that no other organization is meeting and gives us a great way to generate funds to support the WWC Community Service and Scholarship programs. “ Mary Lee adds “”Big thanks go out to Jeanette Duchnicki who was instrumental in planning the event, and kudos to everyone in the WWC who joined in to lend a hand.”

There is no more wonderful way to celebrate spring than to dress your home for the season with fresh flowering plants and eye-catching garden ornaments. Stop by the Westport Woman’s Club, 44 Imperial Avenue, Westport on Monday, May 7th from 9 am – 3 pm and take advantage of the beautiful finds and great values at the WWC Annual Plant Sale. The sale will feature lovely flowering annuals and lush hanging baskets to grace your yard. There will also be a selection of vibrantly colored, long-blooming tropicals like mandevilla vine and hibiscus that will make wonderful Mother’s Day gifts. Browse through a selection of wrought iron garden stands, planters and gardening accessories. Experts will be on hand to share time-tested tips on how to deter deer and to answer your gardening questions. All merchandise will be sold at reasonable prices and proceeds go to support the philanthropic efforts of the Westport Woman’s Club.

Staples High School Orphenians Perform at WWC April Luncheon

The Staples High School Orphenians helped the members of the Westport Woman’s Club celebrate spring with their performance at the WWC luncheon on April 2.

Choral Director Justin Miller led this elite group of upper classmen in a lovely series of a capella melodies that allowed their vocal talent to shine. They sang a variety of songs including “A Parting Blessing,” based on an Irish proverb, and “Ride the Chariot,” a wonderful spiritual that has been performed by the Orphenians through the fifty-year history of the group. A special cameo performance of “Agony”, a number from the Staples Players show “Into the Woods” was sung by Charlie Greenwald and Tyler Jent accompanied by Danny Pravder on piano.
