ANTIQUE APPRAISAL DAY at the Westport Woman’s Club – June 01, 2019

The Westport Woman’s Club will offer the public an Antique Appraisal Day on Saturday, June 01, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the WWC clubhouse (44 Imperial Avenue, Westport, CT).  To view Flyer click here.

Do you have a family heirloom or an old painting that your grandmother always said was valuable?  A piece of jewelry or sterling that you have never had appraised?  Are you the caretaker of an antique doll whose value is  unknown?  Bring them with you on June 01 and let a professional, experienced, and friendly specialist give you an on-site  verbal appraisal.  Event Chair, Deb Fratino, shares that the current market for certain items is highly desirable:  men’s vintage wristwatches, mid-century art and furniture, Chinese jades, porcelains, and collectibles of many varieties to name a few. WWC Club Day Luncheon – May 2019

Members enjoyed a delicious spring menu, catered by Aux Delices, at their May monthly gathering.  Kathleen Malloy, Team Leader of Patron Experience at The Westport Library, was the featured speaker and updated members and their guests on the library’s transformation status. 

As the finish line nears, the library will be open limited hours beginning on May 28, and will close to the public on June 3rd for final construction tasks, before its grand opening and ribbon-cutting, scheduled for Sunday, June 23rd.  Once transformed and reopened, the library book collection will be housed on the Riverwalk Level, with newest books (less than 6 months old) to be featured on the library’s Main Level.  Improvements to the transformed library will include a flexible event space for 500 people, 16 meeting rooms (the library previously had 3), an indoor/outdoor café space that is 3 times as large,  3 event rooms, recording studio with a pod-cast ability, “things to borrow” (think canoe, kayak, etc), among other enhancements. The Westport Woman’s Club Art Show – April 27-29, 2019

The Westport Woman’s Club hosted its annual Art Show on April 27-29, 2019 at 44 Imperial Ave, Westport, CT.  Admission to the Westport Woman’s Club Art Show was free and open to the public.  For Art Show Flyer click here.

Curated by Westport Artist Miggs Burroughs, this popular show featured a variety of local artists and their works available for purchase.  Chair Jo Fuchs Luscombe shares that participating artists donated a portion of their art sales to help fund the club’s community service grants to non-profit organizations in Fairfield County, in addition to need-based college scholarships for Staples High School seniors.   Continue Reading

WWC SPRING FASHION SHOW – Sold Out Fundraiser

The Westport Woman’s Club invited the public to a Spring Fashion Show on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at their WWC clubhouse.  This hot ticket provided an opportunity to see the latest in spring fashion, modeled by men, women and children from our local community.  Event Flyer click here.

Fashion Show guests enjoyed a noon luncheon provided by “The Granola Bar”, modeled spring fashions from local Westport vendors “Splash of Pink” and “Southern Tide”, an array of silent auction  items, “Shoes ‘N More” and “Scout & Molly’s” pop-up stores, and more.  Event Chair, Ana Hitri, shared that all fashion and auction item purchases made at this spring fundraiser support WWC charitable causes within Fairfield County.

Sounds for a Starry Night Concert – December 2018

On Friday evening, December 7, the Westport Woman’s Club hosted internationally-acclaimed musicians, Igor Pikayzen (violinist) and Tatyana Pikayzen (pianist) on a star-lit stage in Bedford Hall.  Grandson of the legendary Soviet violinist Viktor Pikayzen, Igor was born in Moscow, Russia.  Since his concert debut at the age of eight, Pikayzen has performed with major orchestras in Europe, Asia, North and South America. 

Igor was a winner of a Horizon Award, presented by the Westport Arts Advisory Committee to an outstanding Westport artist, under the age of 30 with a national/international reputation.  Praised by critics and audiences alike for his astounding technical ability and majestically lush tone, Mr. Pikayzen is regarded as one of the most promising young artists of his generation.   Continue Reading

Cheers to Sip & Savor 2018

The Westport Woman’s Club hosted a wine tasting fundraiser on Friday, October 26.  A variety of wines from 7 countries were available for tasting, while live classical music was performed by student musicians from the Bedford Hall stage. Coveted prizes, delicious food, and an opportunity to order favorite wines were also a part of this festive evening.  Funds raised from Sip & Savor 2018 will support need-based student scholarships and grants to non-profit organizations within Fairfield County.

Scenes From Annual Clothing Tag Sale – October 2018

The Westport Woman’s Club held its annual Clothing Tag Sale on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 19-21 at the WWC’s historic clubhouse located at 44 Imperial Avenue, Westport, CT.

Gently used women’s, men’s and children’s clothing and accessories were on display at this year’s Tag Sale,  Plus, “The Best Stuff” section featured both unworn items and name brand garments.   Continue Reading

Scenes from WWC Gilbert & Sullivan Performance – September 2018

WWC presented an evening with Gilbert & Sullivan on Saturday,  9/22.  

Selections from all of Gilbert & Sullivan’s operas were performed.  These included The Pirates of Penzance, Iolanthe, Princess Ida, The Mikado, The Gondoliers, H.M.S. Pinafore, and others.  

The performers, all professional singers, have appeared in many local productions as well as those in New York City.

Club Day Luncheon – June 2018

Bill Harmer, Executive Director of the Westport Library was the guest speaker at the WWC Club Day Luncheon.

He described the project that will transform the fixed and static thirty-year old Library into a community oriented facility which will serve the cultural, educational and information technological needs of the Westport community in the 21st Century.  Mr. Harmer calls the Library project “creative, opportunistic, energetic and transformative.”  

Installation of incoming Board Members, 2018 -2019 took place.

Club Day Luncheon – April 2018

Jennifer Tombaugh, President of Tauck Tours was the WWC April Club Day Guest Speaker.   Jennifer is a graduate of Harvard University and Harvard Business School, and her collaborative leadership style has led her to become the first person outside of the Tauck family to be named President of the company, which traces its roots back to 1924, and with a fourth generation now involved.

Westport Woman’s Club Art Show 2018 – Saturday, April 28, 5-8 pm (Opening Reception) and Sunday, April 29, 12-4 pm

On Saturday evening April 28 and Sunday afternoon, April 29 only, the popular Westport Woman’s Club’s Art Show, curated by Miggs Burroughs, opens to the public. Singer Melissa Newman will perform at Saturday’s opening reception. Chair Jo Fuchs Luscombe notes this year’s Art Show honors late artist Bobbie Friedman, wife of Drew Friedman. This annual show, featuring local artists, seeks to generate sales for them and funds for need-based college scholarships for Staples High School seniors.  To view some of the artworks available for purchase click here.

Club Day Luncheon – March 2018

Staples High School Jazz Band, under the direction of Nicholas Mariconda, performed to a standing ovation at the Westport Woman’s Club March Luncheon today.  The Band is a performing ensemble of musicians chosen by audition from the school’s  core groups: band, orchestra and choir. 
 
The Jazz Band consists of the traditional big band instrumentation of saxophones, trumpets, trombones and rhythm section. They perform at school events and competitions throughout the school year.

Club Day Luncheon – May 2017

May Club Day consisted of a traditional May Tea.  Members donned their favorite festive hats to welcome Spring at the WWC.  Attendees enjoyed an assortment of delicious Tea Sandwiches: watercress cucumber, deviled egg, curried chicken, French ham and butter, tuna and vegetables on assorted breads, and mini desserts. The Ruegg Grant Committee of the Westport Woman’s Club invites local non-profit organizations to apply by March 1, 2017 for up to $5,000 in one-time funding of a 2017 project involving social services, health, safety, the arts or education. Key selection criteria include: a high-profile initiative that makes a continuing difference in the community and enhances the WWC name. 9th ANNUAL BLUES, VIEWS AND BBQ FESTIVAL – 2016

Our association with the Blues, Views, and BBQ Festival began back in 2008 during its first year and has continued for all 8 years. Since that time, the WWC has received over $14,000 from the Westport Downtown Merchants Association, the sponsor of this town-wide event.
