Members enjoyed a delicious spring menu, catered by Aux Delices, at their May monthly gathering. Kathleen Malloy, Team Leader of Patron Experience at The Westport Library, was the featured speaker and updated members and their guests on the library’s transformation status.
As the finish line nears, the library will be open limited hours beginning on May 28, and will close to the public on June 3rd for final construction tasks, before its grand opening and ribbon-cutting, scheduled for Sunday, June 23rd. Once transformed and reopened, the library book collection will be housed on the Riverwalk Level, with newest books (less than 6 months old) to be featured on the library’s Main Level. Improvements to the transformed library will include a flexible event space for 500 people, 16 meeting rooms (the library previously had 3), an indoor/outdoor café space that is 3 times as large, 3 event rooms, recording studio with a pod-cast ability, “things to borrow” (think canoe, kayak, etc), among other enhancements.
In 1908, an “Open to All” inscription welcomed arrivals at the Westport Library entrance, and today our Westport Library still strives to “make connections beyond books” each and every day to our grateful community.
Additional Club Day business for the May luncheon included updates on the WWC participation in the Memorial Day Parade, 2019 Ruegg Grant, May Scholarship and Community Grants Award Breakfasts, “Painting with a Twist” Fundraiser on 05/08, “Antique Appraisal Day” Fundraiser on 06/01, Canal Park May Luncheon and recognition of our generous 2019 Art Show Sponsors.
