Once again on Father’s Day Weekend, “kids of all ages” will gather at the Westport Woman’s Club, 44 Imperial Avenue, to enjoy one of the town’s oldest and best-loved family events, The Westport Woman’s Club’s Yankee Doodle Fair. This year Westport’s last remaining annual family Fair opens Thursday, June 18, 6 PM to 10 PM and continues Friday, 6 PM to 10 PM, Saturday, 1 PM to 10 PM and Sunday, 1 PM to 5 PM. The Yankee Doodle Fair will once again feature carnival rides and games from Stewart Amusements. The Expo Wheel is replacing the Ferris Wheel. Dizzy Dragon, Bumper Cars, Cobra Coaster, Tornado, Scrambler, Cliff Hanger, Super Slide, Whacky Shack Fun House, Merry Go Round, and Rip Cord are returning. A new updated spectacular version of the Ali Baba type ride named Rock Star and breath-taking Zero Gravity, are among others. Kiddie Rides include Quad Runner, Jumping Jumbos, Dinos and Frog Hopper.
Pay one price unlimited rides wristbands will be available all the days of the Fair, including Friday and Saturday nights! The Westport Woman’s Club’s Face Painting, kids can choose fun or “fierce” designs, Sand Art is back for younger children, a new Children’s garden area with “Twinkle Little Star” photo opportunity and Fountain of Wishes for free-will donations to our WWC need-based Staples Scholarship Fund.
POP-UP EVENTS! Suzuki School violinists performing Sat. 4 pm. Sound Tigers hockey mascot and a FREE Demo in Bedford Hall by Westport’s Volunteer EMT’s of Hands-Only CPR on Saturday and Sunday.
In the air-conditioned Auditorium, our Gourmet Group will hold their highly-anticipated Bake Sale featuring home-made baked goods sure to please every taste! Enjoy a cup of coffee or a cold drink while you make your selections or browse through our Yankee Doodle Fair Cookbook (available for $5)
Fairgoers will have the opportunity throughout the Fair to buy tickets for the Raffle, as well as the Take a Chance Drawing. The Take a Chance drawing is at 4 PM but Raffle is at 5 PM on Sunday, Father’s Day. It is not necessary for the winners to be there for the drawing to claim the fabulous prizes. The Raffle Grand Prize is $1500; second prize, Vitamix; third prize, 8 Westport Country Playhouse tickets. Thanks to Westport’s very generous merchants and restaurants, there are also many more gifts and prizes on the upper level.
At the Food Court, Shanghai Gourmet’s favorite Asian food is new. The Blue Lemon will be returning to the fair this year and will feature: burgers, hot dogs and lobster rolls and Los Molcajetes Tacos & Burritos is new. Skip’s vintage Good Humor Truck will be on hand with ice cream treats. In addition the members of the Westport Woman’s Club will be selling cold beverages and water for the benefit of our community services grants and scholarships.
