We are looking for: GENTLY USED (NOT TORN OR SOILED) WOMEN’S, MEN’S & CHILDREN'S CLOTHING & ACCESSORIES (SHOES, HANDBAGS, SCARVES, JEWELRY, ETC.)
** No personal items please (e.g. undergarments, lingerie or bathing suits) **
Please drop off your items at the coat room of the WWC Clubhouse at 44 Imperial Ave, Westport, CT. Donations are accepted until October 18th.

Once again on Father’s Day Weekend, “kids of all ages” will gather at the Westport Woman’s Club (44 Imperial Avenue, Westport, CT) to enjoy one of the town’s oldest and best-loved family events, The Westport Woman’s Club’s YANKEE DOODLE FAIR. This year’s family Fair opens Thursday, June 13 (6pm – 10pm) and continues Friday, June 14 (6pm – 10pm), Saturday, June 15 (1pm – 10pm) and Sunday, June 16 (1pm – 5pm).
Says WWC Past President and Yankee Doodle Chair, Karen Kleine, “We’re so excited to bring the YANKEE DOODLE FAIR, a fun end-of-school year tradition, to Westport again this June. Net profits from the fair will support many charities in Fairfield County, need-based college scholarships to Staples High School students, and our WWC Food Closet that works in tandem with Westport’s Department of Human Services. Please save the dates of June 13-16 to bring your friends and family to make great memories at this year’s YANKEE DOODLE FAIR 2024. The Westport Woman’s Club really makes a difference in the lives of so many.”
The Yankee Doodle Fair will once again feature carnival rides and games from Stewart Amusements. Returning are the ever-popular Carousel, Flying Dumbo, Dizzy Dragon, Frog Hopper, Scrambler, Cliff Hanger, Zero Gravity, Expo Wheel, among others. Pay one price; unlimited ride wristbands will be available all days of the Fair, including Friday and Saturday nights! Our youngest visitors will be excited to know that Sand Art is available at the Fair again this year. We will also have Snowflake Painting as a new activity.
Throughout the Fair, you will have an opportunity to buy tickets for Yankee Doodle Fair Raffle Prizes. In addition, our Yankee Doodle Fair’s “Take a Chance” tent is returning this year with a wide variety of prizes, many donated by Westport’s generous merchants and restaurants. “Take a Chance” prizes will be available for viewing throughout the Fair under a tent on the fair’s upper level, where you can buy tickets to win “Take a Chance” prizes. All winning Raffle and “Take a Chance” tickets will be drawn at the end of the Fair on Sunday, Father’s Day. It is not necessary for winners to be present to claim their prizes.
At the Yankee Doodle Food Court, fellow non-profit WESTPORT EXCHANGE CLUB will feature a selection of hamburgers, hot dogs, etc, as well as wine and beer to customers of legal age. GRECIAN DELIGHTS will be offering Greek favorites, gyros, souvlaki and shish kabob. Skip’s vintage GOOD HUMOR Truck will be back with ice cream treats for every taste. In addition, members of the Westport Woman’s Club will be selling cold beverages, home-made baked goods, with proceeds benefiting WWC community service grants and need-based scholarships for Staples High School seniors.

“AFFORDABLE FINE ART FROM THE AREA’S MOST DESIRABLE ARTISTS”
The Westport Woman’s Club will host a “Pop-Up” Art Show on Friday May 3rd from 5-7 (opening reception) and Saturday, May 4th and Sunday, May 5th from 2-5 in the clubhouse at 44 Imperial Avenue. Admission is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
Curated by Westport Artist Miggs Burroughs, this popular show features a variety of local artists whose works are available for purchase. Event Chairperson, Karen Kleine shares that, “The Westport Woman’s Club is excited to host this Pop-Up Art Show which will feature 200+ works of art including paintings, mixed media and ceramics, priced from $50-$1500. Artists featured are members of our local Artists’ Collective of Westport joined by other talented creators specifically selected by Miggs Burroughs. ”

The Westport Woman's Club is holding its annual Clothing Tag Sale on the following dates: Friday, October 20 from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm; Saturday, October 21 from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm; and Sunday, October 22 from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm, at the WWC’s historic clubhouse located at 44 Imperial Avenue, Westport, CT.
Gently used women’s, men’s and children’s clothing and accessories are back at this year’s Tag Sale, which will offer a wide array of suits, dresses, pants, blouses, gowns, coats, scarves, shoes, jewelry, handbags and hats.
Funds raised from this Clothing Tag Sale will help support the Food Closet for the Town of Westport, many local charities throughout Fairfield County, and need-based student scholarships.

About the political cartoons of Arthur Szyk (1894-1951):
How Arthur Szyk's political cartoons helped generate U.S. support for World War II entry: In the first two years of World War II, the United States remained neutral. With devastation spreading in Europe, memories of World War I and the Spanish Flu Pandemic still fresh, and the Great Depression choking the economy, Americans were receptive to the newspaper editorials and radio speeches of isolationists like Charles Lindbergh. Meanwhile, behind the scenes, as President Franklin Roosevelt worked to prepare the nation for war, a Polish Jewish illustrator, Arthur Szyk, left Europe in 1940 for New York, and dedicated his art to sophisticated caricatures exposing the barbarity of fascism to Americans. Soon, his political cartoons appeared across America, in newspapers, as covers on mass-market magazines, and, in 1941, in his book, The New Order (G.P. Putnam & Sons). Szyk's popular work helped Americans visualize and personalize the evil against which they ultimately had to fight. Today, Szyk's remarkable illustrations and his impact on moving American public opinion toward readiness for war are commemorated in exhibits and museums around the world, including the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, British Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Library of Congress, FDR Presidential Library & Museum and The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. About Deborah Varat, Ph.D:
Dr. Deborah Varat is a professor of Art History at Southern New Hampshire University and Coordinator, Public Humanities Initiative (PHI). Her research focuses on popular press imagery as it relates to the American Jewish experience. She has published articles on the Dreyfus Affair and on representations of Jewish immigrants in the press around the turn of the last century, and is working on a book about representations of Jews in the American popular press from 1880-1945. Arthur Szyk’s World War II caricatures will be the subject of the book’s final chapter.

Sixteen Fairfield County community service organizations have recently received 2021 grants from the Westport Woman’s Club. The recipients serve social needs including homelessness, family crises, and food insecurity.
Community Service has been the trademark of the Westport Woman’s Club since its inception in 1907. Each year the WWC members spend many volunteer hours to find the right balance between current needs within the community, available funds and the WWC mission. Due to the current health crisis, with COVID-19 impacting so many people in Fairfield County community, the WWC Community Services Committee has decided to focus on shelter and mental health for their annual grant distributions this spring. The recipients of the WWC 2021 Community Service Grants are following Fairfield County nonprofit organizations in the total amount of $25,000.

The Sixth Annual Live ART SHOW will take place at the club Saturday May 22 & Sunday May 23 from 2-6 pm both days. The show will be a wonderful and affordable exhibit of the areas' most desirable artists. In addition, there will be one beautiful original painting for a drawing. Our club will follow all safety protocols. Masks and social distancing will be required. In addition, we will offer bottled water, individually packaged snacks and wine. Please come and support our club. Thank you.
Support the Westport Woman’s Club at their annual wine tasting fundraiser, with a new twist this year. SWIRL & SIP 2020 is going virtual on Wednesday, December 9, from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Hosted by local Westport vendor, Castle Wine & Spirits, your $25.00 advance ticket includes sparkling wines for this virtual tasting which can be picked up in advance at Castle Wine (1439 Post Road East, Westport, CT 203-259-5948); Italy and Spain are the featured countries for this tasting. Silver Ribbon, another Westport small business, is generously sponsoring SWIRL & SIP’S door prize, a $200 gift certificate for store-wide shopping.
SWIRL & SIP 2020 tickets can be purchased in advance through Monday, December 7 at Swirl & Sip - Westport Woman's Club. Once you purchase your ticket to attend, you will receive an order confirmation to your provided email. On December 8th, you will receive your Zoom link to that same email. Profits from the evening will benefit community grants to Fairfield County non-profit organizations and need-based college scholarships for local seniors. Remarkable Theater, a Westport non-profit that provides purposeful employment to individuals with disabilities, is kicking off a summer drive-in movie experience on Friday, June 26, featuring the classic film, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”. This drive-in movie fundraiser will occur in the Imperial Avenue Commuter Lot (site of the summer Westport Farmers Market). The parking lot will open to a limited number of cars at 7:45pm, with the movie beginning at 8:45pm. A ticket to admit each car must be purchased in advance, with opening night proceeds generously benefiting The Westport Woman’s Club. A Special Art Invitation for WWC Members and Community Friends: Due to ongoing community health concerns, the WWC 2020 Art Show goes virtual this spring! This venue allows the Westport Woman’s Club to continue their annual tradition of supporting local artists, by providing access to their online galleries. The WWC wishes to thank all 14 participating local artists, as each artist is generously donating 30% of any virtual art show sales to support the WWC Scholarship Fund. Need-based college scholarships for local students will be needed more than ever in this new covid-19 economic reality. Please mention that you are a WWC Supporter when corresponding with any of these talented local artists to inquire or purchase a piece of their work.
